Pearl Lowe Names Her Favourite Restaurant in the World – a Hidden Gem in Somerset

Pearl Lowe, renowned fashion and interiors designer and former frontwoman of 90s Britpop band Powder, has revealed her “favourite restaurant in the world” is nestled in Somerset. The intimate eatery, located in Frome’s St Catherine’s Quarter, has won Pearl over with its exceptional tapas, which she describes as “the most delicious tapas you’ll ever eat.”

Living in Frome with her husband, Danny Goffey, the drummer for Supergrass, Pearl has developed a strong affection for this charming Somerset town. Despite splitting her time between their Somerset home and a London flat in Notting Hill, Pearl and Danny plan to settle permanently in Frome, a place they and their children love dearly.

Currently, Pearl and Danny are downsizing from their impressive 11-bedroom Somerset property, reflecting a shift toward a simpler lifestyle closer to the community they cherish. Pearl explains, “We spend some days a week in our Notting Hill flat, but our heart is in Frome.”

Her restaurant of choice, The High Pavement, is a cozy spot open Thursdays through Saturdays. Known for its rotating menu inspired by Spanish, North African, and Middle Eastern flavors, this gem is highly sought after – reservations must be made well in advance. Dishes include unique offerings such as deep-fried goat’s cheese with date syrup, spiced venison, Turkish spiced chicken, and even pistachio, honey, and orange blossom ice cream.

Beyond dining, Pearl treasures the monthly Frome market, held on the first Sunday from March through December, which features a vibrant mix of food, antiques, and more, illustrating the rich local culture.

Pearl also mentions two beloved Somerset hotels: the beautifully designed Number One Bruton and Babington House, where she and Danny tied the knot during a romantic gothic-style winter wedding in 2008.

When reflecting on her London home in Notting Hill, Pearl shares her interior decorating philosophy. She favors an eclectic, comfortable style built around vintage pieces, worn fabrics, and personal treasures, with an emphasis on creating spaces full of character and history rather than the latest trends.

During festive seasons, Pearl enjoys cozy family gatherings around a roaring fire, emphasizing a warm and intimate Christmas tradition.
