A tragic single-vehicle crash on a Somerset A-road has claimed the life of a front-seat passenger. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, at Rode Common, near the junction of the A361 and Rode Hill, close to Frome.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the black BMW was traveling towards Trowbridge when it collided with a tree. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but sadly, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Although formal identification is pending, the deceased’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from a specialist family liaison officer.
A man in his 20s, reportedly the driver, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after receiving treatment at the hospital. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
