Motorists in Somerset are advised of a significant traffic change as the A39 Glastonbury Road will be partially closed and operate one-way only for a 50-day period starting September 8. This temporary traffic arrangement is scheduled to remain in place until October 28.
The closure affects the stretch between the junction with Jocelyn Drive and the Strawberry Way roundabout in Wells. The works include critical upgrades to water, power, and gas infrastructure, alongside resurfacing the road to improve safety and surface quality.
Somerset Council has confirmed that traffic entering Wells from the Glastonbury direction will remain unaffected. However, all traffic leaving Wells via the A39 will be diverted. Drivers will be rerouted along the A371 towards Shepton Mallet and then via the A361 to Glastonbury.

Officials urge motorists to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time during this period to accommodate the one-way operation and diversion routes.
