Motorists in Somerset should prepare for disruptions as the A39 Glastonbury Road in Wells will be partially closed and operate as a one-way route for 50 days starting September 8. The closure will last until October 28 to facilitate significant infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to water, power, and gas services, alongside road resurfacing.
Somerset Council has confirmed that traffic entering Wells from the Glastonbury direction will remain unaffected. However, vehicles leaving Wells via the A39 will be rerouted. The diversion will direct outbound traffic through the A371 towards Shepton Mallet, then onto the A361 to reach Glastonbury.
The affected section of the A39 runs between the junction with Jocelyn Drive and the Strawberry Way roundabout. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time during this period to accommodate the changes and avoid delays.
