A family from Weston is honouring their daughter Phoebe’s memory by participating in the upcoming Moonlight Memory Walk in Clevedon, an event dedicated to raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Phoebe, who passed away at the age of seven, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare and life-limiting neurological disorder, when she was three years old.
Phoebe’s parents, Jessica and Josh, first sensed something was wrong shortly after she was born, noticing she struggled with swallowing and had to be tube-fed. Years later, after her diagnosis with Rett Syndrome, the family was referred to CHSW’s Charlton Farm children’s hospice in Wraxall. The hospice provided vital specialist care and emotional support, helping the family navigate Phoebe’s complex needs with compassion and expertise.
“The first time we came to Charlton Farm was a turning point,” Josh shares. “For the first time, we could truly relax, knowing Phoebe was in caring hands.” Over time, Charlton Farm became a sanctuary for the entire family, including Phoebe’s siblings Harvey and Tilleigh, offering respite stays, sibling support, and a peaceful place to create cherished memories.

Jessica reflects on their experience: “We were with Phoebe until the end in that beautiful setting. It was never clinical—we watched movies, made handprints, and spent precious family moments together.” Phoebe’s bright smile, joy for car rides, and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Motivated by the support they received, Jessica and Josh are committed to fundraising so CHSW can continue its essential work supporting families like theirs. The Moonlight Memory Walk, taking place on Saturday, October 4 at Salthouse Fields, invites the community to join this meaningful event. Participants of all ages will gather for a heartfelt memory ceremony followed by a peaceful 5km walk along Clevedon’s scenic seafront, featuring reflection points, live music, and activities to honour loved ones.
Hollie Thorogood, CHSW’s Events Fundraiser, emphasizes the event’s significance: “We’re thrilled to welcome the community to Salthouse Fields for this special evening. It offers comfort and inspiration, and this year, children of all ages are invited to join.”
Tickets are available until midday on Thursday, October 2, with pricing ranging from free for toddlers to £15 for adults and older children. To book, visit www.chsw.org.uk/moonlight or call 01726 871 800. Last year’s walk raised over £19,000, making a tangible impact on the hospice’s work.
Jessica will also be sharing her family’s story during the event, highlighting the difference that support from CHSW makes for families facing extraordinary challenges. This year’s Moonlight Memory Walk is proudly sponsored by Irwin Mitchell.
