Two men have been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder and firearms offenses related to a shooting incident in Yeovil.
James McGuinness, 31, from Yeovil, and Junior Renford, 31, from London, were convicted for firing a pistol at a moving car in Bofors Park, Lufton trading estate, in October 2025.
On October 1, shortly after noon, McGuinness and Renford pursued their victims in McGuinness’ red Dodge Nitro, shooting at the vehicle during what authorities described as a targeted attack. Remarkably, the two occupants escaped without injury.

Following a thorough police investigation, both men were arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a firearm whilst prohibited for life, and possession of ammunition without a certificate. Additionally, McGuinness faced charges for possession of a stun taser.
Despite their denials, the jury at Taunton Crown Court found both men guilty on all counts. Sentencing took place on July 3, with each receiving a 30-year prison term.
Detective Constable Josh Hawkins commented, “McGuinness and Renford’s dangerous actions showed complete disregard for public safety. Their decision to chase and shoot at a vehicle in a busy trading estate could have resulted in serious injury or death. Thankfully, the victims were unharmed, and no bystanders were hurt.”
He added, “These sentences reflect the gravity of their crimes and the significant risk they posed. The diligent police work ensured their swift arrest and removal from the community.”
