Paedophile Sentenced to 15 Years Following Child Abuse Case

Adam Cockram, a 38-year-old from Calne near the Somerset border in Wiltshire, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a child over several years. The sentencing took place at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday, August 14.

Cockram was convicted by a jury in July of seven counts of causing a female child to engage in sexual activity, as well as one count each of inciting sexual activity, taking indecent photographs, and possessing prohibited images.

In addition to his prison sentence, Cockram must comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 20 years and will be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. He is permanently banned from working with children. The court also imposed a lifetime restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim or visits to their address.

Wiltshire Police commended the courage of the victim for coming forward, which was instrumental in bringing Cockram to justice. Detective Constable Julie Lewis stated, “Cockram abused his victim over an extended period to satisfy his own desires, showing complete disregard for the harm caused. The bravery of the survivor ensured he faced the consequences.”

She added, “I hope this sentence encourages other survivors to speak out. Our specially trained officers are here to listen with sensitivity and respect, and we are committed to pursuing justice for victims.”
