Farrington’s Farm Shop & Café, a well-loved destination near Bristol and Bath, has announced the permanent closure of its on-site fish and chip shop. Known not just for its fresh farm produce and play barn, the popular Somerset venue is saddened by the loss of Farrington’s Fish & Chip Shop, a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
The closure comes amid ongoing financial challenges affecting rural hospitality businesses. In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Farrington’s team shared: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Farrington’s Fish & Chip Shop is now closed permanently. Despite the hard work from our incredible team, continuing financial pressures mean it is no longer viable to keep operating.”
Customers have expressed their disappointment, especially noting the loss of the gluten-free options and the much-loved triple-cooked chips. One visitor reminisced, “Wonderful memories of my eldest growing up and spending weekends at the park with fish and chips!” Another added, “You did the best triple cooked chips! Wish you all the best.” A local resident praised the shop’s quality, saying, “Your food was always outstanding, and it was so nice to have a real fish and chip shop in the village. You’ll be very much missed.”

While the fish and chip shop closes, Farrington’s Farm Shop itself remains open. The site continues to offer a café serving breakfast, lunch, cakes, and afternoon tea, along with the Playbarn Café, providing a family-friendly environment where parents can enjoy delicious treats while their children play safely.
The chippy had earned a loyal following, especially from those needing gluten-free dining options. Google reviews highlighted the friendly staff, delicious food, and extensive gluten-free menu that set it apart. One happy diner shared their memorable meal of battered sausage, chicken wings, garlic mushrooms with addictive garlic mayo, and Katsu chicken with chips, praising the tasty food and warm service.
Despite this sad closure, Farrington’s Farm Shop looks ahead, grateful for the support and memories created by their fish and chip shop over the years.
