Open Casting Call Seeks Talent for Somerset Short Film

Somerset Film has announced an open casting call for an exciting short film set to be shot in Bridgwater this September. The project aims to highlight the unique spirit and stories of the Somerset town, and performers from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Written by Helen Tompson and directed by Archie Rowell, the untitled film will be filmed from Monday, September 22 to Thursday, September 25. Drawing inspiration from authentic conversations with Bridgwater residents, the film showcases the town’s humor, resilience, and distinctive character through a diverse ensemble cast. Roles range from ambitious young creatives to quick-witted elders, offering a variety of compelling parts.

The production is seeking five actors, aged between their twenties and seventies. While applications are welcome from everyone, special consideration will be given to those who live locally or have a personal connection to Bridgwater.

Helen Tompson is known for her work on a radio adaptation of A Christmas Carol for West Somerset Radio. Director Archie Rowell brings experience from behind the camera on popular soap operas like Doctors.

Somerset Film is renowned for nurturing local talent through its BFI-funded Film Academy, with alumni progressing to work on major films such as Wonka, Annihilation, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. The organisation also operates a community café in central Bridgwater, open Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm.

Aspiring actors interested in joining this vibrant project can learn more about the roles and submit applications online by Monday, August 25. Auditions for selected candidates will take place on Friday, August 29.
