Odd Socks and Big Smiles Kick Off Anti-Bullying Week at Radstock School

At St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock, students stepped out in style—and difference—by wearing mismatched socks to launch Anti-Bullying Week on Monday, November 10. This nationwide campaign, running through November 14 and organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, aims to foster kindness, respect, and inclusivity in schools across the UK.

Head teacher Ms Lampert enthusiastically explained, “Odd Socks Day is all about celebrating what makes each of us unique, one colourful step at a time. Wearing our mismatched socks shows that being different is something we should be proud of.”

The entire school community gathered for a special worship session to introduce this year’s theme: “Make a Noise About Bullying.” Throughout the week, pupils engage in activities and discussions focusing on empathy, respect, and standing up for others. These lessons are woven into the school’s personal, social, health, and economic (PSHE) curriculum, reinforcing the message daily.

One enthusiastic Year One pupil shared, “I like Odd Socks Day because my socks don’t have to be friends — they can just be silly!”

Since its inception in 2002, Anti-Bullying Week has played a vital role in raising awareness about bullying, encouraging communities to unite in creating safe, supportive environments for everyone.
