No Wider Threat to Public Following Arrest in Weston-Super-Mare Girl’s Murder

Avon and Somerset Police have reassured the public that there is no broader threat following the tragic stabbing and death of a nine-year-old girl in Weston-Super-Mare. A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) continue to patrol the area, not due to any increased danger, but to provide reassurance and support to the local community after this devastating event. The police have emphasized their commitment to keeping residents informed with regular updates as the investigation progresses.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police expressed condolences and urged the community to avoid speculation, saying: “We understand the shock and sadness felt by everyone in Weston-Super-Mare. While there is no wider risk to the public, additional patrols are in place to support the community. We ask anyone with information to come forward via our website or by calling 101. Please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, December 15, when paramedics alerted police to a house on Lime Close at 6:09 pm. Despite immediate medical response, the young girl was sadly pronounced deceased shortly afterward.

The police have established a cordon around the property as their major crime investigation team continues inquiries. Meanwhile, specially trained officers are providing support to the bereaved family.

Authorities remind the public that speculation or attempts to identify those involved will only deepen the grief of those affected and should be avoided.
