A pioneering sexual health clinic, SWISH (Somerset-Wide Integrated Sexual Health Centre), has opened its doors at Summerlands Health Park in Yeovil, marking the first time the town offers such a wide range of sexual health services in one convenient location. Residents can now access STD testing and treatment, contraception, HIV prevention medication, and additional services without the need to travel far.
Jon Parish, Service Manager for SWISH, emphasized the clinic’s unique role: “For the first time in Yeovil, we offer comprehensive sexual health care locally — a service that blends convenience with confidentiality. This enables more people to seek early help and support, which is essential for effective treatment and prevention.”
The clinic aligns closely with the NHS 10 Year Health Plan’s objectives, focusing on early intervention, reducing health inequalities, and bringing vital care closer to home. SWISH offers flexible options including in-person appointments, telephone consultations, online support, and postal testing kits, breaking down barriers to access.

Open to individuals of all ages, the clinic participates in the C-Card scheme, which provides free condoms to young people aged 13-19, and in some cases up to 25 years old. Parish added, “We understand that discussing sexual health can be sensitive, especially for young people or those with previous negative experiences. Our goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment accessible through multiple channels.”
Dr Nikki Jeal, Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Clinical Service Lead for SWISH, shared her enthusiasm: “After extensive planning, we are thrilled to launch this specialist sexual health service in Yeovil. It delivers high-quality, specialist care locally, making it easier for the community to access treatment and advice, while fostering collaborative care with other Summerlands services.”
Commissioned by Somerset Council and operated by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, the clinic supports broader public health strategies. Councillor Graham Oakes noted, “This new clinic will significantly improve access to crucial services in eastern Somerset, helping to reduce sexually transmitted infections, detect HIV earlier, lower unplanned pregnancies, and promote holistic sexual health—all vital for overall wellbeing.”
With its commitment to quality, equity, and accessibility, the SWISH clinic represents a major step forward for sexual health care in Yeovil and the surrounding area.
