Construction of a new transport hub in the scenic village of Pill, Somerset, is scheduled to begin in January and is expected to be completed by March. Located just four miles from Bristol, Pill is set to benefit from enhanced public transport facilities aimed at improving local travel experiences.
Cllr Hugh Malyan, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, emphasized the project’s focus on community benefits: “The new transport hub in Pill is designed to make everyday journeys easier and more comfortable for residents. By upgrading waiting areas, enhancing accessibility, and improving connections, we’re encouraging greater use of public transport and creating a welcoming community space.”
The project will include new bus shelters along Heywood Road and the installation of real-time bus information screens to keep passengers informed.

With plans to build 1,000 additional homes, Pill is on track for significant growth. Its close proximity to Bristol makes it an increasingly attractive location for commuters.
This transport hub is part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), a wider initiative aimed at upgrading about 150 bus stops and shelters, expanding transport hubs in key towns, enhancing links to the Portishead to Bristol rail line, and establishing a new railway station in Pill to reconnect the village to the national rail network.
Simultaneously, improvements are underway on the A38’s Lime Kiln Roundabout, a major junction linking North Somerset and Bristol. Work started in November and will continue into May next year, involving lane closures to accommodate the upgrades.
North Somerset Council Leader Cllr Mike Bell highlighted the importance of these developments: “Reliable bus services are vital for everyone. Through the BSIP, we are committed to raising service standards and ensuring North Somerset stays accessible and well-connected for all residents now and in the future.”
