Plans are underway to construct eight blocks of student accommodation for nearly 1,000 students in Bath. The University of Bath is set to build “passivhaus” low carbon blocks of student housing on its Claverton Down campus. The proposal includes one large block to be built over the current tennis courts, another over the P Car Park, and six smaller blocks across the sports pitches on the campus.
The site has been excluded from the green belt to allow for the campus development. The blocks are expected to range from four to five storeys in height. The university aims to obtain “passivhaus” certification, emphasizing energy efficiency.
While a full planning application has not been submitted, the university has requested the council’s opinion on the necessary environmental information. To gather public input, a two-day consultation will be held at the end of the month, with sessions scheduled for April 29th and 30th.

The university’s chief operating officer, Dr. Ghazwa Alwani-Starr, encourages community members to participate in the consultation and share their thoughts on the project. The campus expansion aligns with the university’s masterplan, approved by Bath and North East Somerset Council in 2021.
You can find the request to the council on Bath and North East Somerset Council’s planning portal.
