Yeovil has welcomed a new milestone in healthcare with the opening of the SWISH (Somerset-Wide Integrated Sexual Health Centre) clinic at Summerlands Health Park. For the first time, multiple essential sexual health services are centralized in one location, providing residents with convenient access to STI testing and treatment, contraception, HIV prevention, and more.
This integrated approach means people in the Yeovil area no longer need to travel long distances for comprehensive care. Jon Parish, Service Manager for SWISH, emphasizes the importance of accessibility and confidentiality: “Offering such a wide range of services locally helps remove barriers, encouraging individuals to seek early support and treatment."
The clinic operates in line with the NHS 10 Year Health Plan’s vision, which targets easier access to preventive healthcare, reducing inequalities by decentralizing services. SWISH offers flexible appointment options, including face-to-face visits, telephone consultations, walk-in sessions, and postal testing, ensuring everyone can find a pathway that suits their needs.

Understanding the sensitive nature of sexual health, the clinic creates a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages. Notably, it participates in the C-Card scheme, providing free condoms to young people aged 13 to 19, with extensions up to 25 in some cases. “We want to remove the stigma and make support approachable, especially for youth and those with challenging past experiences,” adds Jon Parish.
Leading the clinical efforts, Dr. Nikki Jeal shares, “The SWISH clinic reflects years of planning and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality sexual health care closer to home. This hub not only eases travel burdens but strengthens collaboration with other health services at Summerlands.”
Commissioned by Somerset Council and operated by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, the initiative has been warmly received by local officials. Councillor Graham Oakes highlights its significance: “This clinic is a vital step forward for sexual health in eastern Somerset, aligning with our goals to reduce infections, support early diagnoses, prevent unplanned pregnancies, and promote overall wellbeing.”
With SWISH now open, Yeovil residents have greater access to empathetic, confidential, and comprehensive sexual health care — a positive leap forward for community health.
