South Somerset pet owners may soon have to adhere to stricter regulations as the council seeks feedback on proposed dog control orders. The existing Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) related to dog fouling and a dog exclusion zone in Yeovil’s Ninesprings Park are up for extension for another three years.
A key aspect of the proposed changes is the requirement for dogs to be kept on leads in specific public areas, coupled with the mandate for owners to clean up after their pets. Additionally, a dog exclusion zone in the lower lake area of Ninesprings Park would remain in effect, with exceptions for assistance dogs.
Enforceable under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the council has observed a positive impact from the Ninesprings exclusion zone in reducing dog-related complaints.
