New Owners of Somerset Hotel Stop Selling Alcohol and Pork

A hotel in Somerset, part of the H&H Hotels group, will no longer offer alcohol or pork products in response to the cultural beliefs of its new owners. This decision, aimed at promoting a healthier and more inclusive environment, comes after the hotel in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, was purchased by H&H Hotels earlier in 2023.

The Fowey Valley hotel, a member of the Best Western organization, offers various amenities including 38 ensuite bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and a three-bedroom manager’s property along with two car parks. Notably, all hotels under the H&H Hotels group, including The Richmond Hotel in Torquay and The Savoy in Weston-super-Mare, will adhere to the same policy of not selling alcohol or pork products.

A statement from Jane Mead, the deputy general manager, emphasized the commitment to creating an enjoyable, memorable, and safe experience for guests, in line with the new dietary preferences and cultural practices of the owners. Despite this decision, the impact on customer satisfaction and trade remains uncertain.

H&H Hotels, founded by managing director Hassan Arif, has been contacted for further comments regarding this significant shift. Best Western clarified that the operational decision regarding the sale of alcohol and pork at the BW Fowey Valley hotel is specific to the individual hotel and does not represent a broader change across the Best Western estate.
