A major upgrade to the playground at Memorial Park in Keynsham will soon provide an exciting array of new equipment, including a climbing wall, rope swing, and a wheelchair-accessible carousel. The refurbishment aims to create an inclusive environment where children of all ages and abilities can enjoy outdoor play.
Scheduled to commence in September, the project will also introduce a new tunnel and play mounds, transforming the upper play area with modern, safe, and engaging play structures. Bath and North East Somerset Council emphasises the development as a step forward in making the park accessible and enjoyable for the whole community.
Councillor Sarah Warren, the council’s deputy leader, highlighted the significant role parks play in fostering community connections and supporting physical and mental well-being. She remarked, “Our parks are wonderful spaces for children to play and communities to come together. The new play area at Keynsham Memorial Park has been designed with local input and will offer a more inclusive space for children of all abilities to have fun.”
The climbing wall, specially designed for the park, allows children to climb sideways as well as vertically, offering enhanced play possibilities. Meanwhile, the carousel features a designated wheelchair space to ensure all children can share in the enjoyment alongside their friends.
Councillor Andy Wait, chair of Keynsham Town Council, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress, stating, “Keynsham Memorial Park is one of the town’s most popular green spaces, cherished by families across the community. We’re pleased to introduce innovative new equipment alongside some familiar favourites that will inspire our children and encourage activity and creativity.”
This playground refurbishment is part of a wider council initiative to update play equipment district-wide. Recent upgrades have been completed at locations including Loxton Drive, Calton Road, Burnt House Road, and Weston Recreation Ground in Bath.
Further play area improvements are planned for Vandyck Avenue in Keynsham, Staddlestone Park in Midsomer Norton, Woodborough Road in Radstock, as well as four parks in Bath: Corston View, Pennyquick Park, Lymore Gardens, and Moorlands Recreation Ground. These projects are scheduled to take place in the coming autumn months, continuing the council’s commitment to enhancing green spaces for all residents.
