New Homes Appeal in Somerset Village

A recent appeal has been lodged for the construction of 75 new homes in Coleford, a small village near the Mendip Hills in Somerset. The appeal comes after plans for the development were refused by the Somerset Council, and a public inquiry to settle the issue is scheduled to take place in mid-June.

The proposed site for the new homes is a rough triangle at the northern edge of the village, with access planned from Anchor Road via a new junction. The developer aims to allocate 23 of the new homes as affordable, meeting the council’s 30% affordable housing target for major developments in the former Mendip area.

The council’s refusal of the plans was based on the grounds of substantial harm, citing concerns about the impact on the village’s character. However, the developer’s appeal case argues that the proposed development would not have an adverse impact and only presents limited conflict with the council’s existing planning policies.
