New Hinkley Point C Warehouse Launches in Weston-super-Mare, Creating 70 Jobs

A key supply chain partner for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station has inaugurated a major new warehouse in Weston-super-Mare, further enhancing support for this landmark energy project. Last year, American logistics giant GXO acquired Wiltshire-based Wincanton, following approval from the UK competition authority. Wincanton now serves as the official warehouse and transport service provider for the Bridgwater power station.

This new facility marks the sixth dedicated Wincanton warehouse supporting Hinkley Point C and is expected to create up to 70 new jobs in the region. The warehouse will play a crucial role in managing inventory, securing goods, and streamlining processes across the supply chain.

Paul Durkin, Wincanton’s Chief Customer and Innovation Officer, shared his enthusiasm: “Our partnership with EDF Energy is founded on trust and a shared commitment to excellence. Expanding our role with this new warehouse demonstrates our dedication to delivering innovative, scalable, and resilient supply chain solutions swiftly.”

Brian Buckingham, Senior Logistics Operations Manager at Hinkley Point C for EDF, praised Wincanton’s expertise: “Wincanton is a trusted long-term partner, adept at meeting the complex and evolving logistics needs of this project. We are excited to support the continued growth of the build programme through this new facility in Weston-super-Mare.”

According to a report released Monday, Hinkley Point C now employs a workforce of 27,000 directly. The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) also revealed that the UK’s nuclear sector expanded by 25% in 2024, reaching a £20 billion industry. This rapid growth is fueled by a 33% increase in the nuclear workforce, which now totals approximately 87,000 employees, driven largely by new and emerging nuclear projects.
