Several significant planning applications have been submitted in the areas of Bath and North East Somerset, as well as North Somerset. These applications encompass a diverse range of projects, such as a new farm for a charity supporting vulnerable youth, a Timpson “pod” expansion, an indoor cricket facility, and a large housing development on the edge of Backwell.
One notable proposal involves a Bath-based charity, Jamie’s Farm, which aims to support vulnerable young people by providing farming experiences. The charity has acquired a new farm, Lower Shockerwick Farm, which they intend to convert into an agricultural therapy center and holiday let, while maintaining its functionality as a working farm. This initiative could potentially benefit 450 more children annually. The charity’s plans have garnered support from local residents and emphasize the positive impact on the community.
Additionally, Timpson is seeking to establish a new “pod” in Clevedon, a move that follows the withdrawal of a previous application in Nailsea. The company’s expansion efforts have generated mixed reactions from the local community. Meanwhile, Bristol Cricket Club has applied for permission to construct an indoor facility at their ground near Failand, with the intent to address the growing demand for sports training and recreation in the region.

However, the prospect of a housing development comprising 515 homes in Backwell has encountered resistance from locals who fear the transformation of their village into a “small town.” Concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact on the village’s character and infrastructure.
Furthermore, an obsolete office block in Bath might be demolished to make way for a sizable hotel, potentially bringing economic benefits to the city. The proposed hotel is expected to create numerous job opportunities and contribute significantly to the local economy.
Each of these applications is currently available for public review and the final decisions will be made based on the planning policies and considerations of the respective councils.
