New Family-Run Mediterranean Restaurant Sydney’s Opens in Bath

Bath welcomes a fresh culinary experience as Sydney’s, a family-run Mediterranean restaurant, opens its doors this week. Founded by Garry and Lisa Rosser, the married couple behind the acclaimed seafood spot The Scallop Shell, Sydney’s offers an innovative, ever-changing menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Located conveniently next to The Scallop Shell, Sydney’s pays tribute to Lisa’s late father, Sydney, whose passion for bringing people together inspired the restaurant’s name. Garry reflects on how the new venture feels like a full-circle moment for the couple: “In the early days of The Scallop Shell, we used to send guests next door for a drink while they waited for a table. When the building became available, we knew it would perfectly complement our existing restaurant.”

Patrons can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and breakfast starting at 8 a.m. daily. The lunch and dinner offerings, curated under the expert guidance of head chef Mike Mills, showcase a fresh menu that changes every day, drawing from Mediterranean flavors with a local twist.

Dishes highlight the best of regional produce and culinary creativity, featuring items like potted Somerset ham with madeira jelly, slow-roasted pork belly with colcannon and salsa verde, and vegetarian favorites such as roasted portobello mushrooms with wild garlic rarebit and goat’s cheese. Seafood enthusiasts can indulge in Cornish hake fillets served in a bun or crisp fried haddock goujons paired with roasted garlic aioli.

Sydney’s also commemorates Lisa’s father, who passed away five years ago. As a skilled plumber instrumental in setting up The Scallop Shell, his legacy lives on not only in the tribute copper pipe sign crafted by the family’s son-in-law but also in the restaurant’s ethos of community and warmth.

Open seven days a week on Monmouth Place, Sydney’s operates from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Currently, the restaurant welcomes customers on a walk-in basis only, inviting locals and visitors alike to experience this heartfelt addition to Bath’s vibrant dining scene.
