West Somerset Council is nearing completion of the first council homes in over 30 years. The development at Rainbow Way in Minehead is set to offer 54 homes, comprising a mix of 33 flats and 21 houses. A special Open House event is scheduled for Tuesday 18 June from 2pm-5pm, welcoming local visitors to tour a two-bedroom, end-of-terrace home.
The homes feature low carbon technology, including PV panels, thermal storage with smart controllers, and air source heat pumps, all designed to meet 2050 zero-carbon standards. The innovative use of clay blocks in the construction aims to improve heat retention and reduce energy bills for residents.
Priority for the new properties will be given to local residents and those with connections to Minehead and adjoining parishes. Interested individuals can register for the homes on www.homefindersomerset.co.uk.
