New Art Gallery in Somerset Showcases Global Exhibition of Artists

Bruton, a posh town in Somerset, is about to welcome a new art gallery this month. The owners, Frederick McDonald and Zsanett Der Levine, who previously resided in Sydney, have recently relocated to the UK and now call Bath their home.

The Fred Levine Gallery, established around six years ago, has most recently exhibited in London. The location of Bruton, according to the owners, is a strategic choice after years of operating nomadically. They describe it as a “special destination for contemporary art.”

The gallery’s first exhibition, titled “Landscapes of Time and Memory,” will showcase a collective of international and UK-based artists. Amongst them are Rebecca Partridge, Fernando Casasempere, Silke Weißbach, Raffael Bader, Fred Sorrell, Elena Njoabuzia Onwochei Garcia, Abigail Booth, and Peter Matthews.

Since its establishment in 2019, the gallery has been dedicated to curating exhibitions focused on environmental themes via solo and group contexts. “Landscapes of Time and Memory” brings together eight contemporary artists to delve into the interplay between landscape, history, and the passage of time.

The gallery’s release states, “This exhibition reflects the shifting relationship between the land and the stories embedded within it, questioning how the earth holds our histories, both collective and personal. Each artist offers a unique interpretation, navigating the complexities of memory, place, and the erosion of time through diverse media, perspectives and cultural lenses.”

The artworks in the exhibition draw on geological processes, historical moments, and the intimate textures of human experience. Reflecting on the transient nature of existence and the enduring marks left behind, each piece explores time’s influence on landscapes - be they natural, urban, or imagined.
