A kebab shop’s request to remain open until 3am in Oldfield Park, a bustling student district with many long-term residents, has sparked strong opposition from local neighbours. Diamond Kebab & Pizza, located at the corner of Moorland Road, has applied to Bath and North East Somerset Council for a late-night licence to sell hot food beyond 11pm.
Seven local residents have formally objected to the proposal, warning that extending operating hours could worsen late-night disturbances and antisocial behaviour, including intoxicated crowds returning from nightlife. One objection highlighted the community’s diverse makeup, stating, “The neighbourhood is made up of families and students, many of whom already face disruption from late-night activity. Extending the licence until 3am is likely to increase noise, antisocial behaviour, and disturbances during the early hours.”
Another resident described ongoing problems in the area, particularly after 11pm, including loud shouting, littering, vomiting, and noisy mopeds used for food deliveries. “Residents frequently deal with intoxicated behaviour and street litter connected to late-night takeaway customers,” they noted. There were also fears that approving this licence could encourage other nearby establishments to seek similar late hours, potentially turning the neighbourhood into a hotspot for noisy late-night eateries.

Although no specific incidents have been linked to Diamond Kebab & Pizza, the takeaway doesn’t sell alcohol and hasn’t applied for a licence to do so. The business plans to implement measures to minimize disruption, including CCTV installation, signage urging customers to respect residents and leave quietly, and keeping doors and windows closed after 11pm.
The council’s licensing subcommittee will review the application at a hearing scheduled for 10am on June 18 in the Bath Guildhall council chamber.
