A proposal by Diamond Kebab & Pizza to extend its takeaway opening hours until 3am has ignited opposition from local residents in Oldfield Park, Bath’s busy student neighborhood. The corner shop on Moorland Road has applied to Bath and North East Somerset Council for a late-night food licence to continue serving hot food after 11pm.
Seven neighbours have formally objected, expressing concerns that longer opening hours will amplify disturbances already affecting the area. Oldfield Park, while home to many students who often seek out late-night food, also houses families and long-term residents who say they regularly experience noise and antisocial behaviour after dark.
One objection submitted jointly by two residents noted, “The neighbourhood consists of a mix of families and students, many of whom are already disrupted by late-night activity. Allowing a licence until 3am would likely increase issues related to noise, antisocial behaviour, and disturbance during the early morning hours.”

Another resident reported ongoing problems linked to nighttime activities: “The area already suffers from consistent late-night nuisance, particularly post-11pm. Loud shouting, intoxicated behaviour, littering, food waste, and even vomiting are common, creating a disruptive environment for local residents.”
Concerns were also raised about noisy mopeds used for food deliveries. One nearby resident warned, “If this licence is granted, other local takeaways might seek similar late-night permissions, potentially turning the neighborhood into a hotspot for late-night noise and disorder.”
Notably, Diamond Kebab & Pizza does not sell alcohol and has not requested a licence for alcohol sales. The takeaway plans to install CCTV and display signs urging customers to leave quietly and respect neighbours. Additionally, doors and windows would be kept closed after 11pm to help contain noise.
The council’s licensing subcommittee is scheduled to hear the application at 10am on June 18 in the Bath Guildhall council chamber, where the final decision will be made.
