An elderly woman in her 80s has tragically died following a serious assault at a flat in Devizes, Wiltshire, police have confirmed. Emergency services were called to Keepers Road at around 8:10 a.m. on Christmas Day. Despite the rapid response of police officers and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wiltshire Police have arrested a 63-year-old woman, who is known to the victim, on suspicion of murder. She is currently receiving treatment in hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detective Inspector Alan Smith, leading the investigation from Wiltshire Police’s major crime team, expressed deep sorrow over the incident: “This is a tragic event in which an elderly woman has lost her life on Christmas Day. We have detained a woman connected to the victim and are not seeking any other suspects at this time.”

A crime scene has been established at the flat, with house-to-house inquiries underway as the investigation progresses. Increased police patrols will be visible in the local area to reassure residents.
Residents are encouraged to come forward with any information or concerns by contacting local officers. Police continue efforts to identify the victim’s next of kin. The cordon around the property is expected to remain in place through Christmas and into Boxing Day.
