Murder Investigation Launched After Elderly Woman Dies Following Assault in Devizes Flat

An elderly woman, believed to be in her 80s, has tragically died following a serious assault inside a flat on Keepers Road in Devizes, Wiltshire, police confirmed. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Christmas Day. Despite the swift response from police and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the location.

Wiltshire Police have arrested a 63-year-old woman, who is known to the victim, on suspicion of murder. The suspect has been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Detective Inspector Alan Smith, from the major crime investigation team, expressed deep sympathy for the victim’s family and highlighted the seriousness of the incident.

“This is a tragic loss of life, particularly on Christmas Day,” DI Smith said. “We have a suspect in custody known to the victim and confirm no one else is being sought in connection with this case. Investigations are underway, including house-to-house inquiries, to fully understand the circumstances.”
