A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a nine-year-old girl in Weston-super-Mare. Authorities arrested a teenage boy on suspicion of murder after the girl was found dead at a residence on Lime Close.
Police were alerted by paramedics at 6:09pm on Monday, December 15. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Just ten minutes later, at 6:19pm, officers arrested the teenage boy in Worle; he remains in custody as of Tuesday, December 16.
Superintendent Jen Appleford expressed the community’s grief and sent condolences to the family, who were informed the previous night. “It is impossible to put into words the pain and anguish they are feeling,” she said. The family is receiving support from specially trained officers.

She emphasized that a thorough criminal investigation is underway to determine the facts. The formal identification has not yet been completed, and a post-mortem examination will take place.
The police have asked the public to refrain from speculation regarding the circumstances or identities involved, out of respect for the family and to avoid adding to their distress.
A police cordon remains in place as officers continue their inquiry at the property. Superintendent Appleford added, “We have no doubt the community will come together in response to this tragedy.” There will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days to provide reassurance and support.
