A murder investigation has been officially closed following the discovery of a missing 23-year-old man’s body in North Dorset.
The young man, a local resident, was last seen around 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, near Station Road in Sturminster Newton. His body was found a week later, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the Newton Hill area close to Sturminster Newton.
Initially, Dorset Police arrested a man in his 30s from Blandford on suspicion of murder. However, after a thorough investigation—including toxicology and pathology analyses—the police have confirmed that there is no evidence of third-party involvement in the death. The arrested individual has been released under investigation and will face no further police action.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police explained that the arrest was made to gather information and provide legal protections but added: “Following an extensive investigation, detectives are now satisfied that no third party was involved in the man’s death. We have kept the deceased’s family fully informed throughout and continue to offer our support during this difficult time.”
The case will now proceed to inquest, with detectives cooperating fully with HM Coroner.
