Murder Accused Charged in Connection with Death of South Petherton Man

Graham Janes, 49, has been formally charged with the murder of 43-year-old Colin Lawson, a resident of South Petherton. Janes is set to appear before Taunton Magistrates Court today, Monday, August 25, following his arrest on suspicion of murder.

The alleged murder occurred at a property on Holbrook Park, off Mare Lane, South Petherton, on Friday, August 22. A forensic post-mortem examination revealed that Mr. Lawson died as a result of multiple serious injuries.

In addition to the murder charge, Janes, who resides on Pear Tree Drive in Chard, faces an additional charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, believed to have taken place on the same night.

Detective Inspector Alan Smith, Senior Investigating Officer, expressed condolences: “Colin’s family remain in our thoughts. Specially trained officers continue to provide them with support and regular updates.”

A small crime scene remains at the property as inquiries continue. Officers are working diligently to conclude their investigations promptly. DI Smith also thanked the local community for their patience and understanding during this time.
