Mum Battling Breast Cancer Joins Hundreds to Walk for Her Hospital

Cat Banks, a mother of four from Wiltshire, is taking on a special challenge as she battles breast cancer. On Saturday, May 17, she will join over 300 participants in the Walk of Life, a charity event organized by RUHX, the official NHS charity for Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath. The walk aims to raise crucial funds to support patients, families, and hospital staff.

Participants can choose from three distances—10 miles, 16 miles, or a full marathon—along the scenic Kennet and Avon Canal. Since its inception in 2005, the Walk of Life has raised more than £800,000, and this year promises to be one of the largest gatherings yet.

Diagnosed in September 2024, Cat is motivated by the desire to give back to the hospital that has cared for her so diligently. “I want to help ensure others can receive the same exceptional care I have experienced,” she says.

Each walker is encouraged to raise at least £100, which directly supports the RUH and helps enhance its services. Cat praises the dedication and kindness of the RUH team, describing their care as “amazing” and feels fortunate to have received such support throughout her journey.

Joining Cat will be her friend Polly, along with hundreds of others committed to making a difference. Their collective effort underscores the power of community in supporting vital healthcare services.
