Dan Norris, the Labour MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, has remained on police bail seven months after his arrest in April on suspicion of multiple serious offences, including sexual offences against a minor, rape, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office. Despite the length of time elapsed, he has yet to be formally charged.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police stated, “Investigations into alleged sexual offences are sensitive and complex, often requiring significant time to complete enquiries. Our dedicated team, Operation Bluestone, specializing in rape and serious sexual assault, is leading the ongoing and active investigation. We are providing continual support to the victim and keeping her informed of any developments. A man in his 60s remains on police bail.”
Mr. Norris was elected as the Labour MP in July 2024. Following his arrest, Labour suspended him from the party; however, parliamentary whips have reportedly continued to cast his proxy votes. It is understood that he is barred from entering the parliamentary estate during this period.

Public response has been strong, with a petition on change.org collecting over 1,000 signatures demanding Mr. Norris resign. The petition’s organizer, Andrew Gray, commented, “This is about whether you believe his ability to represent the constituency is diminished as a result of the circumstances.”
