Somerset MP, Sarah Dyke, is set to meet with senior police officials and council officers to address safety concerns on the A361 Frome bypass following three fatalities in the last nine months. The most recent incident occurred on April 8, involving a collision at the junction with the A362 Rodden Road, resulting in the death of a young woman.
The concerning frequency of accidents on this stretch of road has prompted the MP to demand urgent dialogue with the authorities to devise strategies aimed at eliminating serious injuries and fatalities on the A361 and the wider county road network. In addition to road safety for motorists, the lack of pedestrian infrastructure is also a pressing issue.
The proposed housing growth in the area could potentially increase traffic on the already busy road, making the need for safety improvements even more critical. However, Somerset Council has emphasized the importance of awaiting the outcome of the ongoing police investigation before making any hasty decisions. The council is also keen to explore not only safety engineering improvements but also the role of education, awareness, and enforcement in reducing the likelihood of collisions.

The Frome Missing Links project, which aims to establish a safe active travel route, is also part of the broader conversation about improving road safety in the area.
