A distressing incident occurred in Bridgwater on the morning of Sunday, July 6, when a mother pushing a pram was followed and sexually assaulted by a man. The woman was approached on Northgate around 11:40 a.m. by a man who tried to engage her in unwanted conversation and asked her to accompany him. After she crossed the road to avoid him, the man continued to follow her, causing her to become visibly upset.
In a moment of courage, the mother approached a passing couple for help, who assisted in confronting the man. Police officers arrived shortly after and arrested a 37-year-old man from Kingston-Upon-Hull, East Yorkshire, at approximately 11:55 a.m. The suspect is currently released under investigation.
Avon and Somerset Police have issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly the couple who assisted the woman, to come forward and provide any information that could aid the investigation. The man is described as white, wearing a black T-shirt with reflective strips, black tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers.

Sergeant Nicola Brown emphasized the ongoing support for the victim, stating, “We remain in close contact with the victim, ensuring she receives all necessary support. Our investigation continues with further CCTV enquiries in the area. At this time, we are not aware of any similar incidents, and reassurance patrols were promptly carried out following the report.”
