As the UK braces for another heatwave, with temperatures potentially soaring back into the 30s over the weekend and early next week, Glastonbury festival attendees are preparing to face the heat once again.
On Monday, a viewer turned to Morning Live’s WhatsApp line seeking advice on staying cool in the sweltering weather. Consumer champion Matt Allwright responded with a tried-and-tested festival hack he’s relied on for years.
In a video filmed at his home, Matt explained, “Staying cool can be tough, but here’s a tip I picked up from numerous music festivals. Take a bandana—as if you had ice cubes borrowed from the bar.” He showed a navy blue bandana spread out on his desk, placing teabags in the center to simulate ice cubes.

Matt then folded the bandana over the “ice cubes” and rolled it into a long tube. “You roll it up and wear it around your neck,” he said. “The cold water drips down, keeping you cool all day. It’s worked for me many times.”
Pointing to his neck, Matt proudly added, “This was Glastonbury 2019—one of the hottest years—but the bandana kept me cool. Good luck!”
Back in the studio, presenter Gethin Jones chimed in, “Looks good on him too, a real fashion statement.” However, co-host Holly Hamilton raised a concern, “But if he starts dripping next to you, you might be a little worried.” Gethin joked, “But that’s fine at Glastonbury!”
For those wary of soaking fellow festivalgoers, Boots Superintendent Pharmacist Claire Nevinson shared additional cooling tips. She emphasized the importance of sun safety, encouraging the use of shade and sunscreen. “Carry a cooling spray or mist to refresh your face and body on the go,” Claire advised. “At home, place ice cubes in front of an electric fan to circulate cold air.”
Hydration remains crucial during hot weather. Claire recommended, “Drink a glass of water soon after waking and keep sipping throughout the day. Carry a reusable bottle and avoid too much alcohol, as it dehydrates you.”
By combining Matt’s clever bandana trick with Claire’s expert advice, festival attendees can enjoy the music while beating the heat and staying safe under the summer sun.
