More than 600 Fake Labubu Dolls Seized in Safety Crackdown

Over 600 counterfeit Labubu dolls have been confiscated in North Somerset following safety concerns raised by a vigilant parent. Trading Standards officers from North Somerset Council conducted raids on two businesses in Weston-super-Mare, uncovering fake dolls that pose significant risks to children.

Labubu dolls, known for their distinctive elf-like appearance with a row of jagged teeth, have surged in popularity globally, becoming a viral sensation among collectors. This high demand has unfortunately led to a rise in imitation products flooding the market—many of which fail to meet critical safety standards.

Councillor James Clayton, Cabinet Member for Safety in the Community at North Somerset Council, emphasized the dangers counterfeit toys present: “These dolls contained small, detachable parts that pose a serious choking hazard to children. Beyond being illegal, counterfeit toys can be extremely dangerous.”

He urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing toys, especially from unfamiliar or unverified sources. Counterfeit goods not only bypass important safety and quality checks but also violate intellectual property rights and harm legitimate businesses.

Councillor Clayton added, “Our priority is to safeguard our community, especially its children. We encourage anyone who suspects a product might be unsafe or counterfeit to report it immediately.”
