Minehead is on the verge of a milestone as 54 new council homes on Rainbow Way approach completion, with the project earning a prestigious nomination at this year’s Michelmores Property Awards. Somerset Council, in partnership with contractor Classic Builders, has delivered the first new council houses in Minehead for a generation, located close to the town’s cricket club and Premier Inn.
Built to modern, eco-friendly standards, the new homes feature solar panels and air source heat pumps to help keep tenants’ energy costs low. Of the 54 properties, 21 houses have already been completed and are largely occupied. The first 11 flats are due to be finished by the end of May, with the remaining 22 flats set for completion in June.
Simon Lewis, Somerset Council’s head of housing, income, and tenancy management, provided an update at the tenants strategic group meeting in Taunton. He highlighted that all properties are net zero, EPC A rated, and equipped with advanced technology to monitor energy performance. Lewis also confirmed that a celebratory opening event will be arranged once the scheme is fully complete.
