Minehead Town Council Takes Charge of Local Parks and Gardens in Landmark Transfer

Minehead Town Council has officially taken over the management of several public parks and gardens across the town, marking a significant milestone in local governance and community stewardship.

The handover became effective on Thursday, May 1, commemorated by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Blenheim Gardens led by Mayor Craig Palmer. While the final land registry documents are still being processed, operational control and maintenance duties have already transitioned to the Town Council.

Town clerk Ben Parker emphasized the importance of this change: “This is a pivotal moment for Minehead. Over the coming year, our focus will be on harmonizing the services previously handled by Somerset Council with those now managed by the Town Council. We have worked hard to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption for the public. Residents will notice an increased Town Council presence soon, including new signage and updated contact details across all our green spaces.”

The takeover coincides with preparations for Minehead’s VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations and the busy spring maintenance period, underscoring the council’s commitment to well-maintained and accessible community areas.

Residents will soon find a dedicated section on the Minehead Town Council website detailing the green spaces now under council care, including maintenance schedules and points of contact for enquiries or concerns.

This milestone is part of the council’s broader aim to enhance the quality, accessibility, and enjoyment of public green spaces for both residents and visitors alike.
