Millionaire Aristocrat Seeks Younger Bride with Strict Requirements

Sir Benjamin Slade, a 79-year-old baronet and Somerset estate owner, has publicly announced his search for a new wife—one who fits a very particular profile. Among his prerequisites, the ideal candidate must be at least 20 years younger than him, meaning women in their 60s need not apply.

The new Lady Slade will receive an annual salary of £50,000, along with a car, house, expenses, food, and holidays, in exchange for helping manage his vast 1,300-acre estate. Sir Benjamin specifies that his future spouse must stand taller than 5ft 6ins, possess a shotgun license, and be capable of ballroom dancing, playing bridge and backgammon, and completing crosswords.

He also insists she must not be a Scorpio, nor should she use drugs, be alcoholic, or be Scottish. Additionally, potential brides should preferably come from countries like Canada, the U.S., Germany, or Northern Europe—he notably excludes countries beginning with “I” that have green in their flag.

Sir Benjamin emphasizes the desire for a “good breeder” to secure a male heir, a sentiment linked to his wish to pass on his family baronetcy and estate. He explains that the age difference is partly due to inheritance tax considerations, stating that leaving his estate to a younger wife allows the assets to be transferred tax-free to relatives after her passing.

Physical fitness is also essential; candidates must engage in activities like fast walking and swimming. Helicopter and driving licenses are advantageous, as is experience in running castles, estates, legal matters, and accountancy. While prior children are permissible, Sir Benjamin hopes for two or preferably three sons to continue his lineage.

Known for his social lifestyle, Sir Benjamin seeks a partner who fits within his social and cultural circles, describing his preference for “ordinary country girls who understand things” and share his background and politics. Despite his demanding criteria, he remains open-minded about previous motherhood and values a partner who will competently manage his household and staff.

With a long lineage as a descendant of Charles II and an inherited title since 1962, Sir Benjamin Slade’s search combines traditional aristocratic expectations with modern practicalities. His unique matrimonial conditions reveal a mix of personal, social, and financial considerations shaping this uncommon quest for companionship.
