Midsomer Norton Carnival 2025: Road Closures, Parking, and Procession Details

The much-anticipated Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival is set to light up Somerset once again, bringing an evening of vibrant parades and community spirit. Although this event is not officially part of the Somerset County carnival circuit, it promises a unique experience, featuring many of the dazzling carts that have wowed crowds in Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, and North Petherton.

Mark your calendars for Monday, November 10, 2025, when the procession will commence promptly at 7:30 pm and continue until approximately 10:00 pm.

The parade route begins on the A367 at the roundabout near Charlton Lane, then travels along Charlton Road, passing Norton Hill School. It then turns right onto Silver Street, passing near the Railway Station—an area not recommended for spectators due to congestion. From there, the procession heads to the town hall, turns right onto the bustling High Street around 8:00 pm, moving against the usual traffic flow. This part of the route is typically packed with enthusiastic onlookers.

Continuing to the top of the High Street at The Stones Cross, the procession takes a right turn onto Radstock Road, concluding just past Welton Primary School.

The carnival carts will arrive in Midsomer Norton on the Saturday night prior to the event, parking on the Stratton side of the White Post roundabout on the Fosseway until the evening of the carnival.

On carnival day, road closures will begin early: High Street will close at 5:30 pm, with the full procession route closing from 7:00 pm. Roads will reopen as soon as it is safe—once the crowds have dispersed, equipment removed, and the procession is fully cleared.

Please note, there is no designated event parking. Organizers strongly encourage visitors to walk to the event where possible. Public car parks along the route, including South Road, will remain open but expect restricted access and delays, especially after the carnival ends.

To ensure safety and smooth operation, all on-street parking along the procession route, assembly, and dispersal areas will be suspended. This includes disabled parking provisions. Vehicles parked in restricted zones on designated roads risk receiving fixed penalty notices and may be towed.

Plan ahead to enjoy this dazzling community tradition safely and conveniently!
