Met Office Issues Amber Wildfire Warning in South West

The Met Office has recently issued an amber wildfire warning for most of the UK due to persistent warm weather. The alert is in place for most of England, including London, Dover in Kent, and Wiltshire and will extend into Northern Ireland and southern Scotland on Wednesday.

Following a period of warm weather expected to continue this week, temperatures are anticipated to peak at 22C on Friday. Fire crews are urging people to act responsibly to mitigate the risk of wildfires.

Kathryn Chalk, a meteorologist at the Met Office, emphasized the continued likelihood for wildfire conditions due to strong winds and ongoing dry, warm weather. An amber fire danger rating is currently active across England, extending into Northern Ireland and the rest of southern Scotland on Wednesday.

The London Fire Brigade stressed the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent grass fires, especially due to the drier start to spring this year compared to usual. They are advising against using disposable barbecues and are urging proper disposal of cigarettes, matches, and litter.

Today is expected to be dry and bright with plenty of sunshine, albeit rather breezy with brisk easterly winds persisting for many, and becoming windy along southern coasts and across parts of Devon and Cornwall. The maximum temperature is anticipated to be 15°C.

Tonight is forecasted to be rather cloudy with a few spots of rain in the far southwest, remaining breezy, especially along the coast. The minimum temperature is expected to be 3°C.

Thursday will likely see increasing cloudiness, with scattered showers spreading from the south coast, especially in the southwest, while continuing to be rather breezy, especially along the coast and warm in the sunshine. The maximum temperature is expected to be 14°C.

For the weekend, warm and sunny conditions are expected to return, albeit still rather breezy at times, especially along the south coast. The slightly cooler temperatures are anticipated on Saturday and Sunday.
