The Met Office has forecast a weekend of mixed weather across the UK, featuring sunshine interspersed with showers, followed by a significant rise in temperatures at the start of next week. While recent days have seen a dip in temperatures, a warming trend is set to take hold, with Somerset potentially becoming the hottest region in the country.
Temperatures in Somerset are predicted to reach nearly 30°C early next week. On Tuesday, Bath could hit 30°C, and nearby towns such as Taunton, Glastonbury, Yeovil, and Weston-super-Mare are expected to see highs around 29°C.
According to the Exeter-based Met Office, Friday will bring brighter conditions to many, with sunny spells across southern and central England. Temperatures will climb into the mid-20s Celsius in parts of central and eastern England, with highs between 25°C and 26°C.

Saturday is forecast to be largely dry and pleasant across England and Wales, accompanied by sunny periods, though rain may affect northern areas, particularly northwest Scotland. Sunday will bring a similar outlook early on, but a weather front moving in from the west is expected to bring rain to Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, and possibly northern England by evening. Central and southern regions should remain dry with occasional sun.
Looking ahead, from Sunday onward, temperatures will rise notably across southern parts of the UK. This increase is driven by the remnants of Tropical Storm Dexter, which will draw warm air from the southwest. Temperatures exceeding 30°C are anticipated in parts of central, southern, and eastern England on Monday and Tuesday.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates commented, “We’re confident that temperatures will increase markedly by the start of next week, reaching the low 30s Celsius in parts of England on Monday and possibly mid-30s in a few areas on Tuesday. However, the duration of this warm spell remains uncertain, and it’s possible that high temperatures could continue further into next week, especially in the south.”
He added, “Ex-Dexter initiates this temperature rise, but the weather patterns that will sustain any prolonged heat are less predictable.”
The forecast also highlights a cloudy start to the day with bands of rain and drizzle moving southwards in the morning, becoming drier and brighter in northern areas during the afternoon, with breezy conditions and a maximum temperature of 23°C. This will be followed by a dry evening with some sunshine and cooler temperatures overnight, dropping to around 10°C. Friday is expected to remain dry with sunny spells, though some higher-level cloud will pass through. The weekend will be largely dry and settled under high pressure, featuring sunny spells, before conditions turn cloudier with some rain on Monday as temperatures continue to warm.
