The Met Office has issued a weather update indicating that the Bank Holiday weekend in the UK could be influenced by the remnants of Hurricane Erin. The Exeter-based forecasters highlight some uncertainty toward the end of the weekend, with a shift to more unsettled weather conditions possible.
Earlier in the week, a cold front will progressively move southward, allowing high pressure to build more broadly from the north. This pattern will bring clearer skies and sunshine, particularly benefiting the northern and eastern regions of the UK by Wednesday.
Despite the improved sunshine, temperatures will remain moderate due to cooler airflows and reduced humidity. Across much of the UK, highs will reach the high teens to low 20s Celsius, with the south experiencing temperatures in the mid-20s.

Thursday will start cool, especially in northeastern Scotland where light showers may linger, while the rest of the UK experiences dry and bright conditions. Temperatures will range from mid-teens in the north to low 20s further south. Overnight temperatures on Thursday will drop, with some areas facing noticeably chilly conditions by Friday morning.
Friday promises dry, pleasant weather with sunny intervals pushing temperatures up to around 23 or 24°C in the sunniest spots. As the Bank Holiday weekend begins, high pressure is expected to maintain settled and fine weather on Saturday, likely continuing into Sunday.
However, Atlantic low-pressure systems could start impacting western parts of the UK later in the weekend, potentially bringing showers. The Met Office remains vigilant about the trajectory of Hurricane Erin, which currently stands as a Category 3 storm east of the Bahamas.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Stephen Kocher explains, “We are closely monitoring Hurricane Erin’s path. If the storm transitions to an ex-hurricane and reaches the UK next week, it could introduce an area of low pressure and more unsettled weather conditions. While this is still about a week away and forecasts carry some uncertainty, there is a possibility of wet and windy weather as August ends. We will keep observing Erin’s developments and update forecasts accordingly.”
In the immediate term, expect a mix of clouds and sunny intervals this morning, becoming sunnier through the afternoon with temperatures rising to around 23°C. Tonight will be dry and clear with cooler conditions, especially in rural areas that may see local fog patches, dropping to about 8°C.
The coming days will bring variable cloud but generally dry and settled conditions under high pressure, with chilly nights at first but pleasant, warm sunshine during the day.
