Men’s Mental Health Charity Andys Man Club Launches New Support Group in Taunton

A new peer-to-peer support group for men is set to open in Taunton next month, providing a welcoming and confidential environment for men over 18 to share their mental health challenges without judgment.

This initiative is part of Andys Man Club, a national charity founded after the tragic suicide of Andy Roberts, who struggled silently with his mental health. In response, Andy’s brother-in-law, Luke Ambler, and mother, Elaine Roberts, established the organisation to encourage men to speak openly during difficult times.

The Taunton group will hold its inaugural meeting on Monday, June 9, at Claims Consortium Group, Nightingale Lodge, East Reach, from 7 pm to 9 pm. Attendance is free, confidential, and no prior registration is required. Meetings will continue every Monday, except bank holidays.

The launch of the new Taunton group follows the success of the Yeovil branch, which has been active since December 2024. Growing awareness of the charity’s efforts in Somerset has highlighted the need for additional support groups in the area.

Steve Doyle, area lead for the South West of England and former participant, reflects on his experience: “At the end of 2020, I was in a tough spot. Attending Andys Man Club for the first time in January 2022 was life-changing. Hearing other men openly discuss their feelings and struggles, many mirroring my own, gave me the courage to be honest with myself and seek change. The positive impact of sharing in a safe, non-judgmental space is hard to put into words.”
