A motorcyclist from North Somerset has been publicly named after being caught speeding at an alarming 110mph in a 50mph zone. Zephan Thompson, 26, from Rowan Close in Weston-super-Mare, was clocked traveling more than twice the speed limit on a B-road in Somerset’s Chew Valley in March.
Thompson was riding a Yamaha MT on Chapel Lane, Chew Stoke, when a traffic officer stopped him on March 30 after observing the excessive speed and a dangerous overtaking maneuver. He was subsequently summonsed to court to face a charge of exceeding the 50mph speed limit.
At Bath Magistrates’ Court on April 23, Thompson pleaded guilty. As a result, he received a 70-day driving disqualification, a £450 fine, a £180 victim surcharge, and £130 in court costs.

PC Edward Walsh, a roads policing officer involved in the case, condemned Thompson’s actions as “reckless and dangerous,” highlighting that traveling at such speeds in a 50mph zone left little opportunity to react to hazards on the road — endangering both Thompson and other road users.
