A North Somerset motorcyclist has been publicly named and reprimanded after being caught speeding at a dangerous 110mph in a 50mph zone. Zephan Thompson, 26, from Rowan Close in Weston-super-Mare, was clocked exceeding the speed limit by more than twice on a B-road in Somerset’s Chew Valley.
On March 30, Thompson was riding his Yamaha MT along Chapel Lane, Chew Stoke, when a traffic officer stopped him following a high-speed overtake. The officer reported that Thompson was travelling at approximately 110mph – a speed that greatly endangered both himself and other road users.
Thompson subsequently faced court proceedings, pleading guilty at Bath Magistrates’ Court on April 23. He was disqualified from driving for 70 days, fined £450, and ordered to pay court costs of £130 alongside a £180 victim surcharge.

PC Edward Walsh, a roads policing officer involved in the case, condemned Thompson’s actions as “reckless and dangerous,” highlighting the severe risk posed by such excessive speed. “At that rate, he was covering nearly 50 meters every second in a 50mph zone, leaving no time to react to hazards, which could have led to devastating consequences,” Walsh stated.
