A memorial honoring the children who lost their lives during the Bath Blitz of World War II has been vandalized in what authorities describe as a “mindless” act. The damage was discovered on Tuesday, August 19, in the memorial garden on Shaftesbury Road, Bath.
The memorial, a poignant tribute to innocent lives lost in the 1942 bombing, suffered significant harm: a metal cross was forcibly broken off, and the plaque displaying the victims’ names was scratched. The damaged plaque is now scheduled for removal and repair.
Avon and Somerset Police were notified about the incident on Wednesday, August 20, and an investigation has since been launched. Officials noted that the area has experienced repeated incidents of anti-social behavior, but they confirmed there is no evidence of any political motive behind the vandalism.
