The McDonald’s restaurant located at Wake’s Garage on the A303 near Yeovil has permanently closed its doors as of Sunday, November 23. Serving commuters and locals for almost 25 years, the closure marks the end of an era for this popular roadside stop.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told Somerset Live that the company regularly reviews its restaurant portfolio to ensure each location meets the needs of its community. “While we continue to grow our estate, we occasionally need to make difficult decisions to close stores that no longer align with local demand. This was not a decision taken lightly,” they said.
All employees affected by the closure were given the opportunity to apply for positions at nearby McDonald’s restaurants, including locations on Sherbourne Road and Lysander Road in Yeovil.
During its time in Sparkford, the restaurant accumulated a total of 4,455 Google reviews, earning an average rating of 3.6 stars. Its presence on the busy A303 made it a convenient stop for many drivers commuting through the area.
Though the Sparkford McDonald’s will be missed by many, the company remains committed to serving its customers at alternative nearby locations.
