Matt Weston Secures Second World Cup Victory as British Skeleton Squad Impresses

Matt Weston continued his phenomenal season by clinching his second gold of the year on the IBSF Skeleton World Cup circuit, this time at Lillehammer, Norway. Weston, the reigning World Champion, and his British teammates train at the University of Bath and once again demonstrated their dominance on the ice.

Following his triumph at the Olympic test event in Milano-Cortina, Weston topped the men’s podium with another commanding performance. Remarkably, Weston achieved this despite recovering from an injury that sidelined him from all pre-season ice training. His resilience is evident as he has now won five of his last six international races.

Other British men also showed strong performances, with Marcus Wyatt narrowly missing the podium, finishing seventh just two-tenths of a second off the medal positions. Jacob Salisbury impressed with an outstanding second run to secure 14th place overall.

In the women’s competition, Tabby Stoecker delivered a standout performance to claim a silver medal. She posted the fastest starts in the field, recording split times of 4.96 and 4.92 seconds—under five seconds, unmatched by any other competitor—and maintained consistent runs to finish runner-up to reigning World Cup champion Janine Flock.

Stoecker’s silver marks her third individual World Cup podium and completes her medal collection for the season, adding to her earlier gold and bronze medals earned in December 2023. She also contributed to the British mixed team’s gold alongside Wyatt at the season opener.

Freya Tarbit continued to impress, finishing fifth in the women’s event, while Amelia Coltman placed 14th, rounding off a strong team showing.
